Horse appraisal in Alaska.
Our team appraises horses all over Alaska, and in every other state besides. We see mostly trail horses and dressage horses here, though plenty of draft horses cross the desk too, and the process doesn't change from one to the next.
Alaska's therapy programs and 4-H clubs are few and far apart, so matching a donation horse to one takes more doing than it does elsewhere. We're happy to handle that part.
Questions we get about Alaska
- Does the cost of shipping a horse to Alaska count toward its value?
- It doesn't count toward fair market value, which is what a buyer would pay for the horse in the market it's actually in. For insurance, replacement cost can reasonably include getting a comparable horse here, and the report says which standard it uses.
- Are there enough Alaska sales to compare against?
- Rarely. We pull comparables from the Lower 48 and western Canada and adjust them, and we explain each adjustment in writing so whoever reads the report can follow it.
